SanDiegoZoo.org
Located only 40 minutes from downtown San Diego, it's like you have been transported to another continent!
Come and join us for a tour of the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park, recognized world over for its conservation efforts. This 1800-acre park simulates the wild sweeping plains of Africa and Asia, home to over 2,200 wild animals that roam freely throughout the preserve. As you approach your vehicle, you start getting a sense of the place called Africa. During the Journey into Africa tour, you'll see eye to eye with wildlife and get a new appreciation for just how huge a rhinoceros or Cape buffalo is. Interactive elements line the winding path to the loading site. As your tour takes you through South Africa, you'll get a look at a herd of zebras. You'll also roll through North Africa where the Sahara Desert is home to animals with amazing adaptations. From North Africa, your tour will take you back through East Africa for another look at impalas, gnus, gazelles, giraffes and of course, southern white rhinos. This tour was created especially for you.
The Journey into Africa tour replaces the Park's Wgasa Bush Line Railway tour. Running time is 25 to 30 minutes and the route is about 2.5 miles. Habitats and regions featured are Africa's desert, veldt, forest and mountain habitats. The conveyance is an open-sided, soft-wheeled tour vehicle. The Journey into Africa tour at the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park opened March 14, 2007.
